Our Approach

Holistic Village Development

A village is an interconnected ecosystem. If a watershed runs dry, farming families suffer. If kids fall ill from poor sanitation, school attendance drops.

We work backwards from a vision of complete, self-sustaining community resilience—integrating natural resource management, WASH sanitation, rural livelihoods, vocational skill training, and public infrastructure upgrades into a single, unified development model.

Participative Decision-Making

Top-down charity fades when funding ends. At SEARCH, decision-making remains in the hands of the community. Every desilted reservoir, school retrofit, and clinic is co-created.

By building and anchoring assets within local institutions—like Water User Groups, panchayats, and Women’s Self-Help Cooperatives—we ensure that communities actively own and govern their future.

Our Work

Five domains. One integrated mission.

Dryland poverty isn’t one problem with five causes — it’s a single cascade. When the watershed empties, soil and livelihoods follow, and the next generation migrates out. SEARCH works the cascade in reverse, holding all five domains together in the same village so the change compounds and lasts.

  • Comprehensive desiltation and bund strengthening of the ancient water body
  • Water storage capacity increased by over 12,000 cubic metres
  • Groundwater table raised, recharging 15 agricultural borewells in the basin
  • Secured critical, year-round irrigation for local farming families through peak summer
