The Prakasam Mandal SHG Federation hosted its annual general body in October — eight years to the month after the first seven SHGs federated across two villages. Lending crossed three crore rupees for the first time this year, with non-performing loans staying under 3% across the federation’s book.

The meeting moved between the federation’s two largest village halls over a single Saturday. Federation-trained bookkeepers presented the audit ahead of the lending vote; the milk procurement chilling centre managers reported on a record collection year; the custom hiring centre committee laid out the year-ahead repair budget.

What the year’s book showed

  • 47 SHGs federated under a single mandal-level body across 22 villages
  • ₹3 crore in annual internal lending — a federation high-water mark
  • Non-performing loans below 3% across the federation’s book
  • Milk procurement chilling centre running at near-capacity through the year
“Eight years ago we kept our savings in tin boxes under the bed. Today the federation lends three crore rupees a year to its own members.”— M Saroja, President — Prakasam Mandal SHG Federation

The federation president closed the meeting by inviting the two adjacent panchayats whose SHG groups have started the federation process — a quiet succession plan for the institutional model that has now run a full decade.
